As India prepare for a crucial Super 8 match against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, captain Suryakumar Yadav has shown complete confidence in young opener Abhishek Sharma, despite his recent struggles.
Abhishek has had a tough run in the tournament, registering three ducks in a row. However, Suryakumar made it clear that the team management is not worried. In fact, he believes rival teams should be more concerned about what lies ahead once Abhishek finds his rhythm.
The Indian skipper confidently stated that every player goes through ups and downs, and this is just a phase. He reminded everyone that Abhishek played a major role for the team in the past and now it is the team’s responsibility to support him. According to Suryakumar, the squad is ready to back him fully until his runs start flowing again.
No Concerns Over Spin Challenge
There has been discussion about India’s performance against spin bowling in this tournament. Addressing those concerns, Suryakumar said the team is experienced enough to adapt to any pitch conditions. He pointed out that while the surfaces have been slightly tricky, they are not unplayable.
India’s players have vast experience from domestic cricket and franchise leagues, which helps them adjust during the middle overs. Whether facing off-spinners or left-arm spinners, the team has specific plans in place. Most importantly, India has won four matches so far, which shows their approach is working.
Line-Up Changes Unlikely
With several left-hand batters in the top order, some experts suggested bringing in a right-hander like Sanju Samson for better balance. However, Suryakumar hinted that major changes are unlikely for the South Africa clash.
He explained that scoring 40–50 runs in the powerplay is normal on these types of pitches. Fans might expect huge totals like 220 or 250 because of past performances, but the conditions in this tournament have been different and slightly challenging.
Tilak Varma’s Role Is Tactical
Questions were also raised about Tilak Varma’s strike rate. Suryakumar clarified that Tilak is playing according to the team’s strategy. If early wickets fall, he is asked to stabilize the innings and build partnerships before accelerating later.
The captain admitted that Tilak might not be fully satisfied with his current performance but expressed full faith in his abilities. He emphasized that the young batter has delivered in the No. 3 position before and will continue to improve.

Handling the Pressure of a Home World Cup
Playing a World Cup at home always brings extra expectations. Suryakumar openly admitted that pressure is unavoidable when representing the country in front of passionate home fans. Everywhere the team goes, supporters expect nothing less than the trophy.
However, he believes pressure is part of the excitement of major tournaments. The team is focused on staying calm, living in the moment, and keeping things simple as they move forward in the competition.
With confidence in his squad and unwavering support for his teammates, Suryakumar Yadav has made it clear — India is ready for the big challenge ahead.
