India vs South Africa: De Kock’s Bold Take on Abhishek’s Form Before Big Match

Abhishek Sharma back

Ahead of the much-awaited Super Eight encounter between India and South Africa in Ahmedabad on February 22, South Africa opener Quinton de Kock has extended his support to India’s young batter Abhishek Sharma, who is currently going through a rough patch in the tournament.

Abhishek has endured a difficult campaign so far, getting out for three consecutive ducks and yet to open his account in the competition. Despite the criticism surrounding his performances, de Kock believes the talented left-hander must stay confident and continue playing his natural game.

Speaking before the high-voltage clash, de Kock said that Abhishek is currently ranked as the number-one T20I batter and that such players earn that position for a reason. He added that being young, it is natural for him to face setbacks, but sooner or later, he is capable of delivering a match-winning performance.

Abhishek’s tournament began on a disappointing note when he was dismissed off the very first ball against the USA. He then missed the Namibia match due to a stomach issue. In subsequent games against Pakistan and the Netherlands, he fell while attempting aggressive shots against spin bowling. Overall, it has been a challenging period for him, as he has failed to score in eight recent innings this year.

On the other hand, South Africa captain Aiden Markram has been in excellent form throughout the tournament. De Kock praised his skipper, highlighting his clarity as an opener and his leadership qualities. According to him, Markram’s approach at the top of the order and his calm leadership allow the team to express themselves freely.

With both teams preparing for a crucial contest, de Kock will play a key role when South Africa face India in what promises to be an exciting Super Eight battle on Sunday.
